I am reading “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson.
It highlights a known fact in that Jobs was obsessed about design, and simple beauty in how the computer was put together in the parts that were unseen as much ones that were seen.
And now, it’s time for a story.
I have heard it said (this means the following is probably fiction) that Michelangelo was carving a statue. This statue would be permanently displayed in the corner, hiding the back of the statue. Michelangelo was working feverishly to make the back as exquisite as the part that would be seen. When told by a friend, “Why work on that? No one will ever see it,” he responded with, “God will.”
And so, I am thinking through how the detail of our work in the practice room impacts the beauty of a performance.
